We believe at any time one gives back unconditionally… it comes back in ways one may not ever come to know.…

Over the last two years the salon industry has raised over $200,000 for CHB, but we're just getting started Gail Federica - Co-Founder and former CEO, John Frieda Professional Hair Care, Current CEO of the Federici Companies.
The HAIRraising program was founded by celebrity hairstylist John Frieda and Gail Federici three years ago after Federici’s daughter required extensive open-heart surgery and received treatment at Children’s Hospital Boston. John Frieda first started the HAIRraising fundraiser in 2010 to benefit the Great Orman Street Hospital in London and has since brought the charity here to the United States.
It is an honor to be part of a charity program that is a collaboration of some of the most talented artists in the beauty industry.” Our Hosting HAIRraising at our Spa these past three years we have been overwhelmed with the support from our community and the many stories shared with us of Children’s Hospital Boston and what it mean to them and their families.
This is a great opportunity for the salon community to come together in support of a facility that is very close to the hearts of so many we come in contact with at our spa.
We personally want to thank our many loyal guests, team, and community for their support & continuous contributions which have allowed us the opportunity to be among the top fundraising salon/spa facilities in the USA & Great Britain. We could not have done this without your support.
Thank You, Nicholas & Michael & Team
Meet the Kids
Every child cared for has a story of unbelievable moxie and profound inspiration.
Brady Age: 5
With seven heart surgeries and 12 cardiac catheterizations, Brady may have spent more time at Children’s Hospital Boston than on the playground. Diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, Brady had his first heart surgery at just two months old. It resulted in cardiac arrest and three days on life support as Brady desperately fought for his life. Only a part of the defect, Brady’s heart lacks a pulmonary valve. To fix it, one operation put a conduit in his heart to serve as the missing valve. But the device won’t grow with Brady, which means he’ll face several more open-heart surgeries to replace it as he grows. This less-than-perfect solution drives Brady’s doctors to keep researching how to create a valve that grows with the child – and is only one of many efforts at Children’s your support makes possible.
Shane Age: 8
As the Shannons prepared for the birth of their first son, Shane, the diagnosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernia wasn’t part of the fairytale. CDH is a life-threatening birth defect where the diaphragm doesn’t form properly, allowing the abdominal organs to push into the chest and prevent proper lung formation. Twenty years ago, one in five babies with CDH survived. Today the national average is 60%. At Children's Hospital Boston: it's 90%. The Children’s Advanced Fetal Care Center (AFCC), one of only six in the world, helps families navigate high-risk pregnancies. They will conduct surgical repairs in utero, closely monitor babies’ growth, and determine action plans after birth. Children’s AFCC doctors prepared for Shane’s arrival—planning immediate surgery and extensive follow up care—to ensure good outcomes. Today, he’s a happy 8-year-old.
Ruqayyah Age 8
Many kids have had a broken bone or two, but Ruqayyah has broken all four limbs-- at once. As a “micro-preemie” born at just 24.5 weeks, her body couldn’t provide the nutrients she needed to grow strong bones, so her weakened bones broke. Other complications from her premature birth required doctors to put a staple in her heart and conduct laser eye surgery—all before she turned one. Ruqayyah spent much of the first year of her life at Children's Hospital Boston, but thanks to her doctors, she now returns just once a year for a check up.
Emily Age: 4
Looking at Emily today—an animated, outgoing 4-year-old—you’d never know that doctors didn’t expect her to survive. Born at 28 weeks, Emily suffered two brain hemorrhages while in the NICU and doctors feared she may never walk or talk. Now, Emily and her twin sister Sara celebrate their birthdays each year by visiting the staff in the NICU and participating in NSTAR’s Walk for Children’s Hospital Boston. She was told she might not ever walk…and now she walks for the hospital that saved her, giving back to help Children’s care for other kids who need it.
Sara Age: 4
Sara can be described as quiet, shy, cautious….and most importantly, she is strong. When she was born at 28 weeks her lungs weren’t fully developed and she struggled to breathe. Children’s doctors placed her on a device that regulated her breathing and prevented her lungs from collapsing. Today, Sara and her twin sister, Emily, are active toddlers who now leave their parents winded, barely able to keep up.
Ciara Age: 5
The emergency department, speech pathology, sports medicine, radiology, orthopedics—the Leonards and their brood of four have spent their share of time at Children’s Hospital Boston. As an infant, Ciara was hospitalized for respiratory syncvtial virus, or RSV. It’s a highly contagious viral disease that infects the lungs and breathing passages. Today Ciara’s healthy. Her parents are grateful to Children’s—and relieved to know the hospital is here, if—but more likely “when”—their family should need it.
Nadia Age: 8
Nadia was born at 24.5 weeks and stayed in the NICU at a nearby hospital for four months. Since then, nearly every doctor that Nadia has seen in her short life has been here. That may not seem extraordinary since she lives just down the street, but the range of doctors she’s seen, from general pediatricians to ophthalmologists and endocrinologists, makes for quite a list. Today, she still comes to Children’s for her check-ups.
Opening in early 1990 The Spa hosted a local charity fashion show for Friends of the Retarded Shrewsbury Ma, It was a gorgeous day the sun shining its meticulously landscaped property a sprawling tent, tables set in all white linens & arrangements of soft pink flowers set the stage for the 200 plus guests arrival.

Boston Sophisticate - "Life as I know it" by Amy Patt
I had the happy experience of attending the Diamonds, Silver, Glitter and Gowns Fashion Show held last night at the Harbor side Hyatt Hotel benefitting HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) which focuses on domestic violence. Keith Lissner was the designer, from NEW YORK (hooray!) and it was a very pretty display of looks with bold statement pieces. Because the Boston Sophisticate show is called “Life as I See It” I can say that sure, I’ve seen the looks, and Keith is certainly showing them more refined. A little bit of the Empire look with brocade fabrics, the layered look (pants, shirt dress, nice jacket) and flouncy skirts. But the thing that blew this show over the top was the jewelry!! These outfits, plus jewelry from Christofle was -*mowah* – perfection! So there is a lesson for you in styling, ladies.
Hair was by Nicholas Michaels Spa of Northborough, MA (Suzanne is shown above, showing her Inner Sophisticate, wearing an adorable grey and black dress). We’ll get all the scoop behind the scenes from Pauline Robertson, Operations Director, on Thursday’s Boston Sophisticate radio show. There was a definite “classy mohawk” theme going on that totally worked. Methinks that the salons in the ‘burbs are giving Newbury Street a run for their money!

In attendance was Melissa O’Shea, of Hello Stiletto fame, shown above with me, looking very glow-y. (I attended her shoe ball last year and it was very fun to walk the catwalk during her now famous “Runway Walk-Off” with prizes for best shoes.) I believe I may be becoming Boston’s Hypnotiq girl. Here I am being asked yet again to snap a photo holding one of their yummy drinks. This time paired with Code Blue. (Does Anyone know the number of the Code Blue Rep?? He/she is being very elusive and yet they are at EVERY event in Boston these days.)
