Spa owners give back to

rescue workers after fire

The Spa at Nicholas Michaels present$25,000 to both the Fire Department and Police Department at what they billed as a formal red carpet gala with spotlights and a police detail adorning the parking lot of their new location at 411 West Main St.

On Friday , Dec. 7, owner Nicholas Olivieri told the 100-plus gathering of staff, clients and members of the community how, in the early morning hours of Oct. 18, he and his partner, Michael Abdella, stood outside the burning building of their salon, with emotions running high.

Our first thought was for our team, who would be arriving for work in just a few hours, and our loyal clients with their scheduled appointments, Olivieri said. We watched the police and firefighters work diligently to save our building.

AS Olivieri presented Fire Chief David Durgin with a large-scale check replica for $12,500, he told the audience how later the night of Oct. 18, Durgin came over to him and Abdella and, in his kindest words possible, explained the extent of the damage.

Chief Durgin is a true gentleman and we are blessed to have him here in the community, Olivieri said. His words of encouragement helped us to move forward and, for that, we thank him.
Olivieri said the money for both the Police and Fire Departments was collected through donations raised by his salon staff.

Next, a second check for $12,500 was presented to Police Chief Mark Leahy.
This money was raised from the kindness and generosity of our team and our clients who helped to make our benefit a success, Olivieri said.
Durgin recalled the night of the spa fire and told the audience how much the donation meant to the Fire Department.

The night of the fire, I really dreaded having to make the call, as you do whenever a fire threatens a persons property, whether its a home or a business, Durgin said as he accepted the check. It was a devastating fire. It was very bad and I felt very bad for these folks. In the days that followed, we spoke with people and we heard nothing but glowing things about these people. They were hit with a tragedy, but instead of hiding in a corner, they turned a negative into a positive. And then for them to turn around and come up with this kind of check to give to the Fire Department - its simply amazing.

As Leahy accepted the check for the Police Department, he echoed the sentiments of Durgin.

It is certainly a testament to the character of both Nicholas and Michael to take the time other people would view as a tragedy they chose to think of the community instead, Leahy said. Its important for you to realize how huge $12,500 is for either the Fire Department or the Police Department.
Leahy then looked once more over at Olivieri and Abdella and expressed his appreciation for their efforts in raising the money.

 As the new location was being built we were busy setting up workshops for each department.  We believe education to be a career long endeavor no matter how well trained we are, the spa industry constantly champions new developments in products, treatments and techniques.

We put this down time to good use by using the opportunity to advance to another level.  Offering more advancements and  additions to our Spa menu allows us to implement cutting edge advancements for our guests.

 Christine, who was recently appointed Network Educator returned from Germany where she attended the International Hair Show.  She brought back some new techniques that fit very well into our regime.  The week before Christine and Nicholas attended the Bumble & Bumble University viewing the Winter Collection and worked with Bumble & Bumbles Educating director to set up classes throughout the year at their New York Location. 

The Massage Department attended an advance Body workshop at the BioElements Center formulating new techniques & Treatments that you can expect to see & experience at our new location.  Just in time for the holiday season,

Our Hair Department attended a Holiday Up Styles workshop where they were trained in the newest and coolest looks for your Holiday formals. 

As we look forward to our new Plastic Surgeon joining our team, our Skin Care Department attended classes called Clinical Skin Care Preparation and Pre & Post Surgery Advancements that will help prepare and maintain the skins recovery for the best results for elected cosmetic procedures recovery.
